Hi Hi, proper essay incoming this week, plus a new weekly Q and A within A Low Desire to Please, that I’m calling ASKHOLES. Where paid subscribers can ask me anything, and I will endeavor to answer fully, as my last one seemed to go down well with you! SO PLEASE SEND ME *SPECIFIC* QUESTIONS.
(Sorry there was a one week pause, my city and neighborhood has been on fire. My home is still somehow standing, but the Santa Ana winds pick back up tonight so we shall see... Thank you for your patience. It has been harrowing and I haven’t slept since last Tuesday worrying for all the people and animals impacted. I promise to get my shit together imminently.)
Right. So onto the invitation thing. Sorry! i’m throwing a two day mental health event in London on January 17th and 18th
It’s two full days of panel talks all hosted by me, with incredible experts, doctors and activists, all about mental health, exercise, and sleep and community, with a selection of brilliant work out classes, like disco, aerobics, yoga, twerking (yes that’s right) and many other movement sessions and workshops. It’s for beginners. For people who fear or loathe exercise to dip their toe in where weight loss isn’t the goal of movement. Where it’s about how you feel. We are anti “no pain, no gain” bio hacking arsehole bollocks. We are all about joyous movement for your mind. No mirrors, Low lights, disco balls, loud music, no judgement, fully adaptive for any accessibility needs and totally inclusive.
Did you know it takes approximately 15 minutes and 9 seconds to feel the mental health benefits of movement? (To release the happy chemicals in your brain.) And yet most people don’t engage with exercise at all because the culture around exercise is so dogmatic. People think you have to go to an expensive gym, and have hours in your day free, you have to wear the right clothes, you have to look like you already work out, you have to be skilled, you have to be fast, you have to meet a certain aesthetic goal. None of this is true.
The world is awful. Exercise is one of the few ways I’ve taken control back over my rotting little brain, simply taking one gentle step after another. Studies show that 150 mins of exercise a week can be almost as effective as taking anti depressants. I’m not recommending you swap them out! But imagine how much better you could be feeling to do the two together?!
This festival is about introducing people to joyful movement, or reintroducing the people who got pushed out by the elitist marketing of working out. We are taking exercise BACK.
I’m fucking sick of how much diet culture has ruined the world of movement. Just like it fucking ruined everything else!
I hope to see you there, do come say “Hi!” if you turn up. I’ll be around all day, and I’m not scary/a wanker. I promise.
This is for all people, all genders, all ages, all disabilities, all skill levels and you don’t have to come with other people, loads of people come to my events alone, and often end up making friends! I’ve done a few of these now, and they’re just a fucking brilliant day.
Also we don’t serve diet food, we serve pizza, because none of this calories in, calories out shit is welcome at my events. You will be safe from diet culture and aesthetic bullying at my party. I promise.
You can find more info and tickets here!
See you soon.
Jam x
Hey! Will any of this be available online? I’m based in Melbourne Australia so the UK is a bit of stretch to get to, but I’d ducking love to go (going to leave that correction in as a nod to The Good Place)
Can’t wait to come back this year! I was at the first Move For Your Mind in 2025 and it was EXTRAORDINARY. I’m not even kidding, it changed my life. If you’re seeing this and haven’t gotten your tickets, make sure you do it now 🫶🏻
