Thank you for being, forever you and unapologetically annoying eternally. Sending you much love and support. Some middle aged white guy on LinkedIn was trying to mansplain how you mis argued your point in the telegraph article after I posted that I f’ing love you and your writing is like the inside of my head (but more erudite). I repeatedly told him I hadn’t read the telegraph article because it was going to be lambasting you and I’d rather read your own stuff instead. He continued to mansplain into my DMs where I ignored him.
The patriarchy and the racists can just disintegrate now please and then we could put annoying women in charge and get on with making the world a better place ta
Came into this comment section with my writin-knuckles pre-cracked, but then you said literally everything I would've said (except "erudite" which I know through context but didn't know the definition of).
So, THANK you for writing my thoughts before I had them. I'ma use my knuckles for something else I guess.
Oh! JJ! You fkn ROCK and I knew I liked you via interviews til I saw you on Ramesh Ranganathan and then you became one of my favourite humans. Wifeage watched part of it and was like, "Oh, we'd have a beer with her!"
Damn. You are allowed to critique the history of your country. And when women go after women, all I can think is the patriarchal bargain is a hell of a drug.
You didn't say anything wrong or offensive. Unfortunately, the morons will get air-time and clicks at your expense for a minute. What you're going through is undoubtedly painful, but it will blow over when the idiots invent a new outrage. Hang in there.
I thought what you said was honest and reflected your perspective. History often supports that viewpoint. It makes me wonder. Why do people sometimes get upset by the truth? Maybe it's because truth can challenge our beliefs, experiences, or whatever.
But speak your truth young lady.
Stay safe, if you need to get off the internet for a few days, do this so, protect your peace.
‘I am old enough to know by now, that people only attack your character, when they cannot attack your ideas’. This has got to be the anchor. Your response to this is admirable.
Nobody likes us women with a strong character. This patriarchal and materialistic society absolutely HATES us strong badasses! Jameela is a badass woman, fearless of speaking out loud, shameless of sharing her opinion. This is freedom of speech and us women have been fighting for this freedom forever, including now in 2026. Personally, I will not stop being fearless and shameless of saying my own vision on a topic or a person. No fake comments to ‘please the others’ just to let them believe something that is not real, and talk crap behind their backs. If an individual cannot accept one’s opinion, just say it without trying to downgrade the other person. If you (individual) cannot accept or respect one’s vision, don’t bully or harass!
Sounds painfully familiar, as an American who is dealing with our self-inflicted sh*t show over here. Hang in there, it'll blow over once the next distraction pops up. Not sure if you've seen the movie "Up" (highly recommend if you haven't) but the dogs all stop what they're doing when someone says "Look, squirrel!") Pretty much what we are doing these days. Hope the death threat morons all get gas pains and stop bothering you.
Thanks for mentioning, I was thinking the piece could have been written about Australia, living everyday with the knowledge that we (as Brits) have done the same thing here and as you say, it's ongoing.
All hail the most annoying woman on the Internet! Thank you for your courage in continuing to annoy them. I'm sorry for what you and your family have been through lately. The right wing media have shown their true colours, and I'm so glad to hear so many people have rushed to your defence. This is an excellent essay - well done for taking the opportunity to educate us all about the truth of the British Empire, and its ongoing repercussions.
You are amazing, I only so the Telegraph one and I comment they are annoying tabloid. It's so refreshing to see people talk about their country with the truth and not just lie about everything even when everybody knows they are lying. It's a recurring joke britain has stolen everything from the rest of the world, in Mexico during the World Cup on our match against England we had a lot of memes about guarding our museums since the english were coming and they might steal everything. Still knowing that we love you english people and my role model is an english woman (you), so one thing doesn't change the other. Thank you always for your words.
I'm British (well, Scottish), and even *I* think the wierd culture of, as Eddie Izzard once put it, colonisation by "Do you have a flag?" as if a piece of cloth represented ownership was peak legal argument back in the day. I don't remember outcry when he said that. The historical facts are documented by the victors (mostly), it's not as if we can deny what we did. British people wrote it down. And it's not like you said we should be held responbile *now*.
It also sort of made the tolerant peeps in the UK what we are today, even if I did have to explain that "low confidence" 1% Polynesian in someone's DNA test meant they brought *back* a bride on a ship at best. I may or may not be both hugely amused and also related to the person...ahem. (I am what we call in Scotland, peely-wally. Sunbathing with Factor 50 leads very much to the "Gondor calls for aid" four panel cartoon).
I also think I know why they ran with it.
We are currently fighting against the demonisation of immigrants, and the scapegoating/blame for being the xause of a (morally) bankrupt government of the disabled. (I'm one, and it's not hard to see parallels in the campaign that results in racial abuse around the (mistake of) Brexit becoming more commonplace.)
I can assure you that despite being British, and keeping an eye on the press (because they tend to release notes on the Timms review faster than the board itself), I never saw it. People around me discussing annoying have diffeernt targets.
That is held, currently in female form by Katie Hopkins, and in male form by Nigel Farrage. I'm guessing the fact the latter is running againat a literal bin is too much for them to report on, which is wierd, because the by-election postal vote sheet is really *really* long.
Head up hon. People taking content out of context is prime "We need to move outrage" journalism. Most of us aren't being distracted.
I am so sorry though.

He he thank you 🙏 go put your knuckles to excellent use elsewhere. Always available for heartfelt comments and the occasional good word

Yep. Women who carry water for the patriarchy will eventually find themselves drowned in it.
💯
Great comment!
Indeed!

I love how (you) Jameela Jamil gets to the heart of the matter. It's a gift.

Hypocrisy is such a threat to progress.

Be more open minded.
Jameela, you keep roaring girl!
You are beautiful, intelligent, funny, talented and fearless!! Don’t stop!!!

Not to mention the colonization and subsequent and ongoing genoside of Australia’s First Nations People and their land…
Thanks for mentioning, I was thinking the piece could have been written about Australia, living everyday with the knowledge that we (as Brits) have done the same thing here and as you say, it's ongoing.
Keep up the awesome "annoying" work that you do. I'm so grateful for you and the clarity of your perspective and all that you write 🥰👏🙏
Well you do appear to be annoying the right group of arseholes, so ... thank you!!
And fuck 'em all to hell in a wonky wheelbarrow.
I’m still trying to understand the “controversy”. You just said the truth.
